| Frequently
Asked Questions
1.
What is an autostereoscopic display?
An autostereoscopic display is a 3D display that does not require
wearing special glasses or a head-mounting device. Unlike a regular
2D monitor, a stereoscopic (3D) display allows the viewer to see
a different perspective of a scene with each eye, thus perceiving
depth.
2. How is deepLight technology different from other
autostereoscopic technologies?
Deep
Light uses a patented Time-Multiplexing technology, enabling high-resolution
3D with look-around capability (motion parallax). Whereas other
technologies are limited in resolution and screen size, deepLight
technology is not limited in those areas. Visit our technology
section for more details.
3. Can the deepLight display be used to view conventional
2D content (cable TV, DVDs, PlayStation, etc.)?
Every deepLight 3D Display can easily be switched between
3D and 2D modes. In 2D mode, the deepLight 3D display is
essentially a high-resolution projection television, and can flawlessly
display any 2D content.
4. Can 2D content be shown in 3D?
Deep
Light’s software package can include optional
2D-3D conversion software. Standard 2D content can be converted
on-the-fly to 3D, for viewing on the deepLight 3D Display.
5. How big is the screen size of a deepLight display?
Deep
Light produces a 25 inch display and has prototypes in a variety of sizes – ranging from
25” desk-side displays to 100” wall-sized displays.
6. Can the deepLight display be installed in my company
conference room for group viewing?
While
Deep Light’s Designer
Series display is meant for individual viewing or a few
people at the same time. Future products will include the Presenter
Series which is ideal for a conference room or any environment
with a larger audience.
7. I’m a modeler using Maya. How can I create content
for the deepLight display?
Any
authoring tool can be used to create content for the deepLight
display. Modelers and animators should use the same authoring tools
and follow the same procedures to create content.
8. I’m an industrial designer using a CAD package.
Can I render design models with the deepLight display in
real time?
Yes,
the deepLight Image Generator can render models in real
time. Basically, any OpenGL-based application is compatible with
Deep Light’s Display.
